Joyce’s mother died while giving birth to Joyce in the village. Joyce lived off a mixture of porridge and water for 18 days before she was brought to Mukinge Hospital by her grandparents, weighing less than 4 pounds(1.8 kg). They were turned away at first, but Pam saw Joyce and worked to keep her in the hospital. Joyce’s grandmother believes that this was God intervening to save Joyce. Joyce stayed in the hospital for 3 months before being healthy enough to be released. Joyce’s grandparents do not have a source of income, making it difficult to support a toddler. Her grandparents travel two days on bicycle every month to see Pam to get food and clothing for Joyce. She has recently turned two years old and is doing well
